Long ago people used homing pigeons and human messengers to communicate with each other, but early eighteenth century marked the change in the communication systems when renowned scientists like Marconi and Maxwell developed systems that could transfer encrypted electric signals via wires. This was the time when Electric Telegraphs, long distance electric telegraphs, and electric telephones got popular.

The need and desire for efficient wireless communication has always been there; medieval men used to shout at each other from far away hilltops, then there were Chinese fire signals and American smoke war signals. The inspiration has been there.

The famous scientists pioneering in the wireless communication systems were Faraday and Maxwell who discovered and used the fact that electromagnetic waves could travel in free space at a speed which was near to the speed of light. As wireless communication is evolving it is getting better in terms of speed and range. Wi-Fi is popular worldwide and wireless computer and mobile phone devices like keyboards, security cams, mouse, headphones, televisions and much more are commonly in use today. People find it very convenient to get rid of wires and go wireless completely. These devices use infra-red as well as Bluetooth connections. Infra-red, however, is becoming obsolete as it requires linear range between the two devices which are to be connected. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are the current prevailing trends in the technology market. Internet is connected using wireless routers which are easily available these days.

Wi-Fi has allowed people to stay connected anywhere at all times. It offers greater flexibility, effective communication which is cheap too and mobility for the users. Whether it is a global business world or social communities, the efficient wireless communication is serving the world in great terms by enhancing the processes and communication. Voice and video communications through computers or cell phone devices has truly revolutionized the world.

Wireless communication is stepping forward towards next generation networks; 3G is quite common worldwide but in developed countries 4G and LTE supported networks are also available. The future wireless technology aims to converge all forms of media to one device; a cellular phone. Whether it is about watching TV or calling someone, users will be able to do it all on one device. In addition to this, new forms of wireless communications are being developed which don’t rely on the internet; one such example is the VANET.
